A husband and wife were walking down
A husband and wife were walking down a busy shopping street when the wife suddenly stopped in front of a jewelry store.
Her eyes immediately landed on a beautiful diamond necklace sparkling in the window.
“Oh, look at that!” she said excitedly.
“Isn’t it gorgeous?”
She pulled her husband toward the window so she could admire it more closely.
She absolutely loved the necklace, but she knew it was far too expensive for them at the moment.
The husband smiled and said, “Don’t worry, sweetheart. One day, that necklace will be yours.”
The wife smiled warmly. “Really?”
“Absolutely,” he promised.
She remembered those words for weeks.
Then, about a month later, the wife was sitting at home when she realized her husband was nowhere to be found.
She tried calling him several times before he finally answered.
“Where are you?” she asked.
Her husband replied calmly, “Darling, do you remember that jewelry store where you saw that beautiful diamond necklace?”
“Of course I remember!” she said, suddenly excited.
“And do you remember that I told you, ‘One day, it’ll be yours’?”
“Yes!” she replied, smiling from ear to ear.
There was a short pause.
Then her husband said, “Well, I’m keeping my promise.”
The wife gasped. “You bought it?”
“No,” he said. “I’m sitting in the bar right next to the jewelry store.”
She stared at the phone in complete silence.
Her husband added, “I figured if I couldn’t afford the necklace, I could at least afford to be near it.”
