A woman walked into a dentist office
One afternoon, a woman walked into a dentist’s office and asked the receptionist how much it would cost to have a wisdom tooth removed.
The dentist came over and said, “For a standard extraction, the cost is $80.”
The woman looked surprised.
“Eighty dollars? That seems awfully expensive. Is there any way to make it cheaper?”
The dentist smiled.
“Well, if we skip the usual anesthesia, I can reduce the price to $60.”
The woman shook her head.
“That’s still more than I wanted to spend.”
The dentist thought for a moment.
“All right. If we use a simpler procedure and avoid some of the extra services, I could bring it down to $30.”
The woman still wasn’t convinced.
“Is there anything cheaper than that?”
The dentist scratched his head.
“Well, I do have a dental student who needs more practice. If you’re comfortable letting the student perform the extraction under my supervision, I could reduce the price to just $10.”
The woman’s face immediately lit up.
“Perfect!”
The dentist smiled.
“When would you like to schedule the appointment?”
The woman pulled out her phone.
“Next Tuesday, please.”
“Wonderful. And may I ask—will the appointment be for you?”
The woman smiled sweetly.
“Oh, no. It’s for my mother-in-law.”
The dentist paused.
“You were very concerned about the price a moment ago.”
The woman nodded.
“Exactly. I wanted to make sure I found the most affordable option!”
The dentist smiled and said:
“In that case, I think I understand why you were shopping around.”
