The government employee and the magic lamp

A state government employee was sitting at his desk one slow afternoon, feeling bored after spending hours in the office with very little to do. Looking for something to pass the time, he decided to explore an old filing cabinet that had been sitting untouched for years.

While sorting through dusty folders and forgotten papers, he discovered an antique brass lamp.

“This would look wonderful on my mantelpiece,” he thought. Since nobody seemed to care about the old lamp, he decided to take it home.

That evening, he began polishing the brass surface. To his astonishment, a cloud of smoke suddenly appeared, and a genie emerged from the lamp.

“I shall grant you three wishes!” the genie announced.

The employee could hardly believe his luck. Without wasting a second, he made his first wish.

“I wish for an ice-cold Diet Pepsi right now!”

POOF! A chilled Pepsi appeared right in front of him.

He grabbed it immediately and drank the entire thing, feeling much better afterward.

With his thirst satisfied and his imagination running wild, he considered his second wish carefully.

“I wish to be on a beautiful island where gorgeous, romantic women are eager to spend time with me!”

POOF! In an instant, he found himself on a tropical island surrounded by stunning women who were looking at him with great interest.

He smiled, convinced that his luck had finally changed.

Now only one wish remained. He thought about his daily routine, the endless paperwork, the long hours at his desk, and the mountain of files waiting for him every morning.

At last, he turned to the genie and confidently declared his final wish:

“I wish I would never have to work again for the rest of my life!”

POOF!

Suddenly, he was sitting right back at his desk in the government office, surrounded by dusty files and paperwork, exactly where he had started.
