A hunter asked a experienced old hunter

A beginner hunter once asked an experienced old hunter for advice on how to hunt bears.

The old hunter smiled confidently.

“It’s simple,” he said.

“I’ve hunted plenty of bears over the years. Just take your gear and head into the mountains. Look for a cave where a bear might be hiding.”

The beginner nodded carefully.

“Then what?”

“Stand near the entrance and make a loud ‘Woo! Woo!’ sound,” the old hunter explained.

“If there’s a bear inside, it may think you’re calling to another bear. When it comes outside, you’ll have your chance.”

“That sounds easy enough!” the beginner said.

He thanked the old hunter and headed into the mountains.

Months later, the old hunter was walking through town when he spotted the beginner.

The young hunter looked exhausted, his clothes were dusty, and he was walking with a noticeable limp.

The old hunter stared at him.

“What happened to you?”

The beginner sighed.

“I followed your instructions exactly. I found a cave, stood outside, and shouted, ‘Woo! Woo!’”

“And then?”

“Something inside shouted ‘Woo! Woo!’ right back at me.”

The old hunter nodded. “So you waited for the bear to come out?”

“No,” the beginner replied. “I waited for the bear to come out.”

He paused.

“Unfortunately, I was standing next to a railroad tunnel.”

The old hunter slowly raised an eyebrow.

“And what came out?”

The beginner sighed.

“Not a bear.”

He pointed toward the mountains.

“Turns out the train knew the ‘Woo! Woo!’ trick too!”

The old hunter shook his head and said, “Well, son… next time, always check whether the cave has tracks before you start calling wildlife!”
