Two old women were talking

Two elderly friends, Gladys and Martha, were enjoying a cup of tea one afternoon when their conversation turned to the secrets of keeping romance alive in a long marriage.

Martha leaned closer and whispered, “I’ve discovered a little trick that sometimes gets my husband’s attention. Before bedtime, I try a few unusual yoga poses. You wouldn’t believe how impressed he gets!”

Gladys was fascinated.

“That sounds wonderful! I’m going to try it tonight. After forty years of marriage, a little excitement couldn’t hurt!”

That evening, Gladys got ready for bed and decided to attempt the special pose Martha had described. She carefully lifted one leg toward her head, but her stiff knees and aching joints made the exercise much harder than she expected.

After several attempts, she finally managed to get the first leg into position.

“Excellent!” she whispered to herself.

Then came the second leg.

She wiggled, stretched, and rocked backward, determined not to give up. With one final effort, she nearly succeeded but accidentally tipped too far and ended up stuck in a rather embarrassing position, unable to get herself upright.

Just then, her husband, Harold, came out of the bathroom.

He stopped in the doorway and stared at her.

“Gladys! What on earth are you doing?”

“Surprise, darling!” she said, trying to sound romantic.

Harold walked closer, squinted at her, and shook his head.

“Good heavens, woman! First, you’ve lost your balance, then you’ve misplaced your dignity!”

“Harold!” she protested. “I’m trying to keep the romance alive!”

He sighed, helped her back onto the bed, and handed her a pillow.

Then he delivered the final blow:

“Darling, if you wanted me to notice you, you could’ve just called my name. I thought the washing machine had broken down!”

Gladys stared at him in disbelief.

The next morning, she called Martha.

“Your yoga advice was terrible!”

Martha asked, “Didn’t your husband get excited?”

“Oh, he certainly did,” Gladys replied.

“He just thought I was a household appliance!”
