A man was sitting quietly reading his paper

A man was sitting comfortably on the sofa, quietly reading his newspaper, when his wife walked up behind him and smacked him on the head with a magazine.

“Hey! What was that for?” he demanded.

“That’s for the piece of paper I found in your pants pocket with the name Laura Lou written on it!” she replied angrily.

The man blinked in surprise before explaining, “Two weeks ago, when I went to the horse races, Laura Lou was the name of one of the horses I bet on!”

His wife paused, thought about it, and then softened her expression.

“Oh, honey, I’m sorry,” she said.

“I should have known there was a perfectly reasonable explanation.”

The man happily returned to his newspaper, believing the matter was settled once and for all.

Three days later, he was relaxing in front of the television, watching a baseball game, when his wife suddenly appeared behind him again.

This time, she was holding a heavy iron skillet.

Before he could even turn around, she brought it down on his head, knocking him completely unconscious!

When he finally came around, he rubbed his head and shouted, “What in the world was that for?”

His wife folded her arms and delivered the unexpected explanation:

“Your horse called!”
