An elderly couple had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

The next afternoon, they were sitting peacefully on their porch, enjoying the sunshine.

The husband was reading the newspaper while his wife was happily knitting.

Everything was quiet and peaceful.

Suddenly, the wife reached over and gave her husband a playful tap on the head.

He lowered his newspaper and looked at her in complete confusion.

“What was that for?”

She continued knitting and calmly replied:

“That was for fifty years of you being a terrible romantic.”

The husband raised an eyebrow but decided not to argue.

He quietly returned to reading his newspaper.

A few minutes passed.

Then, without saying a word, the husband reached over and gave his wife a playful tap on the head.

Now it was her turn to look completely confused.

“What was THAT for?”

Without even looking up from his newspaper, the husband calmly replied:

“That was for knowing the difference.”

His wife stared at him for a few seconds.

Then she started laughing.

After fifty years of marriage, she finally realized that her husband might not always have the best timing but he definitely knew how to get the last word!
