Bubba and his wife go fishing
For years, Bubba’s wife, Verna Lou, had been asking him to take her fishing.
Every time she asked, Bubba would shake his head and say,
“Sweet thang, you wouldn’t enjoy it. Fishing takes patience.”
But Verna Lou kept asking.
Finally, one Saturday morning, Bubba gave in.
“All right, darlin’. You win. Let’s go fishing.”
They packed their gear, headed to the lake, and found a quiet spot on the water.
To Bubba’s surprise, the fish started biting almost immediately.
“Would you look at that!” Bubba said.
Every time they cast their lines, they caught another fish.
Before long, they had caught their limit.
Bubba looked at his wife and smiled.
“Well, sweet thang, I owe you an apology. You’re some kind of fishing good-luck charm! From now on, you’re coming with me every time.”
They packed everything up and started heading home.
After a few minutes, Bubba turned to Verna Lou.
“Darlin’, how are we going to remember exactly where we caught all those fish? Did you mark the spot somehow?”
Verna Lou proudly smiled.
“Oh, yes! I made sure we could find it again.”
Bubba was impressed.
“How’d you do that?”
She pointed toward the side of the boat.
“I put a big X right beside the water where we were catching all those fish.”
Bubba stared at her for a moment.
“Sweet thang, that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day!”
Verna Lou looked confused.
“Why?”
Bubba shook his head and said:
“Because that won’t help us at all. What happens if we don’t get the same boat next time?”
Verna Lou went silent.
Then she smiled and replied:
“Well, Bubba… I guess we’d better write down the boat number too!”
Bubba just stared at her.
“I think I married the smartest fisherman on the lake.”
