A young bride called her mother
A young bride called her mother one evening, sounding terribly upset.
“Mom, Robert doesn’t appreciate anything I do for him!” she cried.
Her mother tried to calm her down.
“Now, sweetheart, take a deep breath. I’m sure there’s been some kind of misunderstanding. What happened?”
The bride sniffled.
“I bought a frozen turkey roll to make him a lovely dinner, and when he found out, he got so upset!”
Her mother immediately took her daughter’s side.
“What a fuss over a turkey! Those things aren’t even that expensive. What on earth is he complaining about?”
“It wasn’t the price of the turkey, Mom,” the bride explained.
“It was the cost of the airplane ticket!”
Her mother went silent.
“Airplane ticket? Why in the world did you need an airplane ticket to cook a turkey?”
The young bride sounded completely confused.
“Well, I was reading the instructions on the package, and it clearly said, ‘Prepare from a frozen state.’ So I thought I had to take the turkey somewhere really cold!”
Her mother blinked.
“And where did you go?”
“Alaska, of course!” the bride replied proudly. “I figured it was the perfect place to prepare something frozen!”
Her mother covered her face with one hand.
“Oh, sweetheart…”
“What?” the bride asked. “I followed the directions exactly!”
Her mother sighed and explained that the instructions meant the turkey should be cooked while still frozen not that she needed to travel to a frozen destination.
The bride paused for a moment.
Then she asked, “So you mean I could have stayed home?”
“Yes, darling!”
The bride sighed.
“Well, that’s just wonderful. Now I have to explain to Robert why his dinner has traveled farther than he has!”
