Two blonde friends were helping with a home renovation project.
One was busy installing wooden siding on the outside of the house, while the other was organizing the tools and supplies.
As the first woman worked, her friend noticed something strange.
Every few minutes, she would reach into her nail pouch, pull out a nail, and either hammer it into the wall or toss it over her shoulder.
After watching this happen several times, the second woman finally asked, “Why are you throwing so many perfectly good nails away?”
The first woman explained confidently, “Well, if I pull out a nail and the sharp end is pointing toward the house, I hammer it in. But if the sharp end is pointing toward me, I throw it away because it must be defective!”
Her friend stared at her in disbelief.
“You cannot be serious!”
“Of course I’m serious,” the first woman replied.
“I’m trying to do a professional job!”
The second woman shook her head, walked over, and picked up one of the discarded nails.
Then she burst out laughing.
“Oh, my goodness! Those nails aren’t defective at all! They’re meant for the other side of the house!”
The first woman paused, looked at the nail, and then glanced at the opposite wall.
For a moment, neither woman said anything.
Finally, the first woman shrugged and smiled.
“Well, that’s good news! I thought the hardware store had sold me half a box of useless nails!”
Her friend laughed so hard she nearly dropped the hammer.
And that’s how they discovered the house wasn’t the only thing that needed a little renovation!
