A young city woman was driving through the countryside when she decided to take a scenic route past some beautiful farms.
As she drove along a quiet country road, she spotted a farmer standing beside a large animal in his field.
Curious, she pulled over and rolled down her window.
“Excuse me, sir,” she called politely.
“I have a question. How come that cow doesn’t have any horns?”
The farmer looked at her, then glanced at the animal beside him.
“Well, ma’am,” he began patiently, “there are several reasons why cattle might not have horns. Some farmers trim them to prevent injuries. Others use special methods when the animals are young to stop horns from growing. And, of course, some breeds naturally don’t grow horns at all.”
The woman listened carefully and nodded.
“That makes sense,” she said. “I never knew there were so many possibilities!”
The farmer tipped his hat.
“Yep, there sure are. But in this particular case, there’s a much simpler explanation.”
The woman leaned forward with interest.
“Oh, really? What is it?”
The farmer smiled and pointed directly at the animal.
“Because, ma’am, that isn’t a cow. It’s a horse!”
The woman stared at the animal for a moment, then looked back at the farmer.
“Oh! Well, that explains everything!”
She rolled up her window and drove away, feeling a little wiser about farm life.
The farmer watched her car disappear down the road and chuckled to himself.
“City folks sure do ask some interesting questions but at least this one gave me a neigh-sense of humor!”
