Sophie and Shirley were two elderly widows
Sophie and Shirley were two elderly widows living in a friendly Florida retirement community.
One afternoon, they noticed a new resident who was quiet, handsome, and always seemed to keep to himself.
Shirley nudged Sophie and said, “You know I’m too shy to approach strangers. Why don’t you go over to him at the pool and find out a little about him? He looks so lonely.”
Sophie agreed and soon walked over to the gentleman.
“Excuse me,” she said politely.
“I hope you don’t mind me asking, but my friend and I noticed you seem a little lonely.”
“You’re right,” he replied. “I’ve spent the last twenty years in prison.”
Sophie’s eyes widened. “Really? What happened?”
“I was convicted of killing my third wife,” he explained. “Before that, my second wife died after I shot her.”
Sophie swallowed nervously. “And what happened to your first wife?”
“We had an argument,” he said calmly, “and she fell from a building.”
Sophie stared at him for a moment, then slowly nodded.
She turned toward the other side of the pool, where Shirley was eagerly waiting for an update.
Waving enthusiastically, Sophie called out, “Yoo-hoo, Shirley! Come on over! He’s single!”
Shirley nearly dropped her sunglasses as she hurried toward them.
Apparently, at their age, the dating pool had a few surprises and Sophie had just found a man who was definitely available!
