A nervous man walked into a doctor office

A nervous man walked into a doctor’s office and sat down awkwardly in the chair.

“Doctor,” he said, “I have a rather embarrassing problem. But before I explain it, you must promise me one thing.”

“What’s that?” the doctor asked.

“You must promise not to laugh at me.”

The doctor straightened his coat and gave him a reassuring smile.

“Of course! I’m a medical professional. I’ve been treating patients for more than twenty years, and I have never laughed at anyone who came to me for help.”

The man took a deep breath.

“Alright, Doctor. I’m trusting you.”

He carefully explained that the problem was personal, then showed the doctor what was troubling him.

The doctor took one look and tried his best to remain serious.

He pressed his lips together, stared at the ceiling, and cleared his throat.

Unfortunately, a tiny chuckle escaped.

He tried to stop, but soon he was laughing so hard that he had to reach for a tissue to wipe his eyes.

After several awkward minutes, the doctor finally regained his composure.

“I’m terribly sorry,” he said.

“That was completely unprofessional. I promise it won’t happen again. Now, please tell me exactly what seems to be the problem.”

The man looked at him sadly.

His voice was quiet as he answered:

“It’s swollen.”

The doctor’s smile vanished instantly.

He pulled his chair closer, picked up his medical instruments, and said, “Right! Let’s get to work.”

The man nodded.

“Thank you, Doctor. I was beginning to think you’d never get past the introduction!”
