Two friends decided to enjoy a quick round of golf on a beautiful Saturday morning.
They were hoping to finish eighteen holes before lunch, but the group ahead of them was moving incredibly slowly.
There were two women playing in front of them, and they seemed to take their time on every single shot.
After waiting through another long hole, one of the men sighed.
“Why don’t you go over and politely ask if we can play through?”
His friend agreed and started walking toward the women.
He made it about halfway across the fairway, then suddenly stopped.
He turned around and walked back.
“What happened?” his friend asked.
The man lowered his voice.
“Well, one of those women is my wife…”
He paused.
“…and the other one is someone I’d rather not explain.”
His friend raised an eyebrow.
“Okay, that could make things awkward. I’ll go.”
He confidently started walking toward the two women.
But halfway there, he suddenly stopped too.
He turned around and came back.
Now the first man was confused.
“What happened to you?”
The second man sighed.
“I was going to ask them if we could play through…”
He shook his head.
“…but I just realized I have exactly the same problem.”
The two men stood there silently for a moment.
Then one of them looked at the other and said:
“Well, I guess we’ve finally found something we have in common neither of us wants to get caught asking for permission!”
They looked at the women, looked at each other, and quietly decided that waiting for the next hole was probably the safest strategy.
Sometimes the smartest move on a golf course isn’t choosing the right club it’s knowing when to stay far away from the wrong conversation!
